Jua was born on Spring Day 2021 in a vibrant field of Namaqualand daisies, under the African sun. Our objective was, and still is, to create an alcoholic beverage that’s better for people and the planet.
We’re inspired by Cape Town – its boundless beauty and the ‘go do’ attitude of its people. We’re all about getting festive and still setting out for a new adventure at the break of dawn.
Our unique flavour profiles are refreshing, fruity and embrace the essence of Kombucha. We naturally ferment and flavour Jua with real fruit and botanicals. You’ll taste and feel the difference.

“If this is hard kombucha, what’s soft kombucha..?” Ha, we get that a lot.
In short, hard kombucha is alcoholic kombucha.
Kombucha was born in China. Fast-forward about 2000 years and we still make it in the same way, with the same ingredients. How kombucha becomes “hard” is that it goes through a second fermentation where it favours the formation of alcohol instead of acitic acid.

Leon’s in charge of Jua’s business and brand. Like his business idol Yvon Chouinard (yip, the founder of Patagonia) he’s looking to make the world a better place. When he’s not doing that, he spends time in the mountain or surfing waves around the cape.

Mike is in charge of making the booch. Step by step he transforms tea into the glorious creation you know as Jua. When Mike isn’t making jua, he’s brewing beer. Or perhaps riding his motorbike, tending to his veggie garden or cuddling dogs.
